Nvidia has invested $2 billion in Californian chipmaker Marvell as part of a wider agreement that will see Marvell connect to Nvidia’s AI factory and AI-RAN ecosystem via its NVLink Fusion interconnect technology.
The partners will also collaborate on the development of silicon photonics, Nvidia said in a statement.
First unveiled in May 2025, NVLink Fusion allows partners to build semi-custom AI infrastructure linking non-Nvidia accelerators with Nvidia hardware in rack-scale solutions. When the offering was launched, Marvell was named by Nvidia as an early adopter of the technology for “model training and agentic AI inference,” alongside the likes of MediaTek, Alchip Technologies, Astera Labs, Synopsys, and Cadence.
Under the terms of the agreement, Marvell will provide custom XPUs and NVLink Fusion-compatible scale-up networking that can be integrated with Nvidia hardware, including Vera CPUs, ConnectX NICs, Bluefield DPUs, NVLink interconnect, and Spectrum-X switches, and rack-scale AI compute.
The companies will also partner on the development of advanced optical interconnect solutions and silicon photonics technology that could help to advance AI-RAN, 5G, and 6G.
