Virtualization infrastructure company Nutanix has released a new elastic storage platform for virtual computing it said brings greater flexibility to the data center environment.
The NX-6000 Virtual Computing Platform series allows enterprises to scale a Nutanix cluster by adding storage capacity as required for applications with large data sets, such as high-end databases and big data projects.
Nutanix said the platform allows IT teams to tailor and seamlessly grow compute and storage to fit individual requirements.
“Although many converged infrastructure solutions enable a simpler, building block-based approach to the enterprise data center, they often lack the ability to ideally match infrastructure capabilities with the demands of specific enterprise applications or services,” Nutanix said.
The vendor claims the NX-6000 is the first converged data center platform that can independently scale storage resources in a single converged infrastructure.
“Existing buyers of converged infrastructure have typically been forced to deploy products that only offer fixed, vendor-selected ratios of storage capacity and compute performance,” Nutanix said.
“Because most enterprises need to run multiple applications within the same environment, each with their own unique resource demands, IT is now in need of infrastructure that can be uniquely tailored to each environment.”
As well as bringing the benefits of flexible provision and a single environment for running multiple applications, the NX-6000 offers three times more raw storage capacity than earlier Nutanix platforms and includes in-line post processes data compression to deliver 35TB to 70TB of usable storage in a space-efficient 2U platform, with a starting price of US$60,000 per node.
