Argentine company Nubicom has entered the Paraguayan telecommunications market.

Last week, the company announced that it intends to carry out the largest deployment of 5G infrastructure in the country, as part of a technological alliance with network vendor Nokia, with an investment of $200 million.

The project seeks to offer a fully autonomous network capable of boosting high-speed industrial and residential connectivity.

According to the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), Nubicom obtained the license to operate 5G services after meeting the requirements of technical experience and volume of international clients. The company, which has operations in Argentina in fiber optic and data services, submitted notarized documentation endorsing its base of more than 100,000 active users.

"It will be the most important investment in telecommunications in recent years for the country," said the president of Conatel, who also emphasized that it will have a strong impact on employment generation and technology transfer to local actors.

During the presentation of the plan, Nubicom explained that the deployment will be concentrated in the main urban areas of Paraguay, starting in Asunción and later extending to Ciudad del Este and Encarnación. The infrastructure will include Edge data centers and low-latency nodes, aimed at boosting industrial internet applications, connected vehicles, and digital health services.

Although the award process is already confirmed, it generated some debate as some competitors questioned Nubicom's operational capacity to lead a deployment of this magnitude. In its defense, the company assured that it has solid financial backing and first-rate technological partners.

With this project, Paraguay positions itself as a key element in the regional digital innovation map, opening the door to new development opportunities in data infrastructure, cloud services, and digital business transformation.
