NTT is exploring developing data centers in the Middle East as it looks to cash in on the region's AI boom.

In an interview with Bloomberg, NTT Data CEO Abhijit Dubey said the firm is considering building data centers in Saudi Arabia.

NTT is present in the Middle East through its various services units, but has yet to build any data centers in the region or announce any commitments to build.

“What we see is there is a supply-demand mismatch in terms of what the country wants to achieve in such a short amount of time, versus the actual capacity we have in the country,” Dubey said in an interview in Riyadh. “I’m here specifically because there has been so much interest around AI.”

Details about any potential data center developments in Saudi Arabia were not shared.

NTT operates a global network of data centers totaling more than 150 facilities across 20 countries. Most of its facilities outside Japan are operated through its NTT GDC unit.

The company has facilities across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the US. The company aims to invest more than $10 billion through 2027 in expanding its data center business.
