Nokia has secured a contract to provide its 5G technology for Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group's (VNPT) 5G rollout in Vietnam.
Announced this week, the contract is the second that the vendor has signed with a Vietnamese telco, after it signed a similar deal with Viettel last month.
As part of the agreement, Nokia will deploy kit from its 5G AirScale portfolio. The vendor also stated it will manufacture its 5G products in Vietnam.
Nokia confirmed it will also provide its AI-based 5G MantaRay network management solution, aimed at boosting VNPT's network operation efficiency.
“Collaborating with Nokia will enable VNPT to rapidly deploy a world-class 5G network and meet the growing demands of our customers in Vietnam, 5G will serve as the foundation that will drive Vietnam’s economic development and societal progress, thereby accelerating its journey towards becoming a digital economy," said Huynh Quang Liem, VNPT’s CEO.
Nokia didn't specify when VNPT's 5G launch is set to take place.
Last month, the vendor paired with Viettel to provide its 5G equipment to cover 22 provinces across the country, plus improve Viettel's 4G infrastructure.
Viettel launched its 5G Standalone network earlier this month.
