Nokia has secured a contract with Viettel Group to support the network carrier's 5G rollout in Vietnam.
The deal will cover 22 provinces across the country, and also see Nokia bolster Viettel's 4G infrastructure.
Deployment of the vendor's 5G network will begin this year.
As part of the contract, Nokia will supply equipment from its AirScale portfolio to cover 2,500 sites across the country.
The portfolio includes baseband products, Massive MIMO radios, and remote radio head products, which are all run with Nokia's energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology.
“This important project with our long-term partner Nokia, will play a critical role in advancing Viettel Group’s strategy of deploying 5G infrastructure and driving digital transformation in Vietnam," said Tao Duc Thang, president & CEO at Viettel Group.
"5G technology supports the development of national digital infrastructure and a digital service ecosystem, creating opportunities for economic growth and increased productivity.”
Last year, Nokia paired with Viettel to broadcast 5G in Ho Chi Minh City.
At present, no telco in Vietnam has commercially launched 5G services. The country is currently working to retire its 2G by next month, while its 3G service will shut down in 2028.
