Swiss cloud provider Netrics Group has taken over a data center in Biel, Switzerland.

Netrics, in partnership with Swiss managed real estate service provider HRS, is taking over the facility on the Bözingenfeld industrial estate in Biel, to the northwest of Bern.

The company was already the anchor tenant at the 3,000 sqm (32,200 sq ft) facility from where it was offering colocation, public and private cloud services, and also has its offices in the same building. The company is taking over the property and the infrastructure in order to aid its growth strategy.

The company owns two data centers and operates or offers services from four more across Switzerland in the Zurich, Basel, and Biel regions. The newly-acquired Bözingenfeld facility is already connected to Netrics' own Datacube facility in Münchenstein via a high-performance fiber optic backbone, offering greater redundancy.

“Our Datacube in Basel has a twin brother in Biel,” said Reto Bertschi, member of the board of directors of Netrics. "There we go from tenant to owner and make a strategically long-cherished wish come true: No company in the region has to deal with its own data center in its own premises, because there are very attractive alternatives to professionally accommodate the digital assets and, if necessary, operate them and have it protected."

HRS CEO Martin Kull added: “As a real estate service provider, we are investing in the data center market because it has interesting potential. We have full confidence in the Netrics Group that, as a leading operator of cloud and data center services, it will be able to tap into this potential and generate growth and added value for its clients from the joint investment."
