Nauru Telikom (Neotel) has launched 5G in Nauru, which it claims to be Oceania's first nationwide 5G+ network service.
The carrier launched the network earlier this week.
In the announcement earlier this week, the carrier noted that the launch of 5G will spur job opportunities across various sectors including telecommunications and IT.
The statement noted the service is 5G+, but there was no mention of whether the network is standalone or non-standalone.
Nauru is one of the most remote countries in the world, located in Micronesia, just north of Australia.
The country's population is just over 12,000 inhabitants.
“Today marks a historic moment in the journey of our nation, a day when we stand on the threshold of a new era of innovation and connectivity," said Zikki Eoe, chairlady for Cenpac Corporation, earlier this week.
“The introduction of Neotel 5G is designed to benefit our citizens directly, it represents our commitment to innovation, reliability, and the future of Nauru. With its ultra-fast speed and unparalleled connectivity, we are empowering our community to thrive in the digital era."
Details around vendor partners were not disclosed by Neotel, which has been running since the 1970s. The company's CEO is Seiuli Deepak Khanna, who has previously worked for Digicel Pacific in a number of Oceania markets.
