Nautilus Data Technologies has put its floating barge data center in Stockton, California, up for sale.
The facility is Nautilus' first data center, but the company has since pivoted to promoting its EcoCore infrastructure portfolio.
The Tier III-level data center was commissioned in 2021 and is built out of a converted existing barge, CEO Rob Pfleging told DCD when we toured the site in 2022.
The barge uses water from the river as its outside cooling loop, helping support rack densities of around 55kW. Featuring around 6.5MW of critical IT load, the 20,000 square foot (1,858 sqm) data center is made up of four data halls.
On land, there is an office and warehouse building, as well as a loading area.
The data center has a current occupancy rate of 86 percent, with tenants leasing 5.58MW.
The whole complex is available for sale at a current price of $45 million. "Straight acquisition offers will be considered," the listing states. "Nautilus would prefer to retain a 15 percent ownership interest in the asset."
The company also said that it can provide ongoing operational expertise and management for the data center.
“Nautilus has always been dedicated to advancing data center technology, with our Stockton facility proving the viability and efficiency of our water-cooling technology—laying the groundwork for EcoCore COOL, our data hall Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU), and EcoCore infrastructure offerings," CEO Pfleging told DCD in a statement.
"The potential divestiture of the Stockton facility is consistent with our focus on expanding technology to empower data centers industry-wide to achieve higher efficiency and reduced environmental impact."
The company had several of its own data center projects in development, including a land-based Maine facility and more barges, but those sites are now conceptual and require a partner to take them over.
It is now primarily focused on EcoCore, which is based off of some of the technology first developed in the barge. Earlier this year, it announced that it would deploy a large number of EcoCore modules at Start Campus' upcoming massive data center in Portugal.
