Mexico is to deploy a national supercomputing cluster in a new Mexican supercomputing center.

The news was announced this week by the Mexican government and President Claudia Sheinbaum, following the signing of a collaboration agreement with the National Supercomputing Center in Barcelona, Spain.

The Mexican supercomputer will be installed inside a high-density data center, and will reportedly be the most powerful in the region.

According to the authorities, the installation of the supercomputer will begin in the coming months, with operational availability estimated within 24 to 36 months.

Further details weren't shared.

The infrastructure will include servers optimized for high performance, with the capacity to integrate GPUs and specialized accelerators, which will enable the execution of artificial intelligence models, climate simulations, and the processing of large volumes of data.

The BSC will provide expertise and allow access to its computing clusters in the interim.
