Meta has signed two Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with US-based independent power producer Treaty Oak Clean Energy in Louisiana.

The PPAs are tied to two solar projects in Morehouse Parish and Sabine Parish, which have a combined capacity of 385MW.

Under the terms of the agreement, Meta will purchase the environmental attributes generated by the facilities, with the energy generated fed into the local grid.

The Beekman Solar project in Morehouse Parish will deliver 185MWac of clean energy, with commercial operations expected in Q3 2027. The 200MWac Hollis Creek Solar project in Sabine Parish is also expected to reach commercial operations in Q3 2027.

“Our partnership with Treaty Oak reflects Meta’s and Treaty Oak’s shared commitment to bringing new, additional clean energy to the local grid,” said Urvi Parekh, Meta’s head of Global Energy. “When we announced our AI data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, last year we committed to working with our partners to bring new energy to the grid – and this agreement with Treaty Oak does just that, while also helping match our operations with clean energy while contributing to local energy resilience and economic growth across Louisiana.”

Meta is currently developing a 2GW data center campus in Louisiana. News of the development, dubbed Hyperion, broke back in November. In December, the firm announced its intention to construct the mega campus on 2,250 acres between the municipalities of Rayville and Delhi, about 30 miles (48.2km) east of Monroe.

The campus is expected to be powered primarily by natural gas, with local utility Entergy announcing that it would fund new power generation and transmission infrastructure to support the data center.

This will include the construction of three combined-cycle combustion turbines with a combined capacity of 2,260MW, two substations, six customer-owned substations, and eight new 230kV transmission lines.

In November, it was reported that Entergy had proposed the construction of a 1.5GW natural gas plant in northeast Louisiana to power the data center.

Pending regulatory approval, the new power generation assets are likely to come online between 2028 and 2029 and will serve the data center through the grid.

In October, the company announced the formation of a $27 billion joint venture with Blue Owl Capital to fund the buildout of the campus. Blue Owl funds will own an 80 percent interest in the joint venture, while Meta will retain the remaining 20 percent ownership.

Meta’s PPA with Treaty Oak is its second in the state. In August of last year, the company announced a PPA with RWE to offtake power from its 100MWac Lafitte Solar in Louisiana.
