Meta has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Lightsource BP to support the development of the 172MWdc (150MWac) Mowata Solar project in Acadia Parish, Louisiana.

Construction on the solar farm is expected to commence this year and will deliver power to the local grid, with Meta purchasing the renewable energy credits generated by the project.

Partnering with Lightsource BP to bring 150MWac of new solar energy online through Mowata Solar is a meaningful step — it adds generation to the local grid and supports economic growth in Acadia Parish. The PPA is the second to be signed between the two companies. In late 2022, the firms inked a 134MW PPA for power from the Arche Solar project in Fulton County, Ohio.

“Expanding our partnership with Meta through this PPA reinforces Lightsource BP’s ability to scale renewable energy solutions alongside the technology sector’s growing energy and operational needs,” said Emilie Wangerman, Lightsource BP’s chief operating officer and head of USA.

Meta is currently developing a hyperscale data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana. Meta announced plans to build a four million sq ft (372,000 sqm) campus known as Hyperion in Richland Parish in late 2024. Originally set on 2,250 acres, Meta quietly purchased an additional 1,400 acres of adjacent land at the end of 2025. Earlier this month, the company more than doubled the data center's projected capacity from 2GW to 5GW.
