Meta has denied affiliation with a $12 billion data center proposal near New Carlisle, Indiana.

The data center, if built, would be located on a 1,057-acre land parcel at 52505 Spruce Road, which is in St. Joseph County, northern Indiana.

“No, not our site” was the statement issued to WSBT 22 late Friday by a Meta spokesperson following claims made by Dan Schaetzle, president of St. Joseph County Council, about the tech giant’s involvement.

Earlier that day, Schaetzle had stated in a newsletter that Meta would be the end user, but the county’s director of economic development, Bill Schalliol, told WSBT 22 that “there has been no confirmation that Meta is the end user.

“No one from the county team including commissioners, council members, or the county project team has been told officially who the end user is. The developer hasn't been given authorization by the end user to release information.”

DCD has also reached out for comment.

Schaetzle then revised the letter, stating that the end-user was speculated to be Meta.

This comes after the County Council voted on September 23 to postpone its decision on whether to rezone the parcel, stating that developers needed more time to speak with the local community.

Since the rezoning proposal underwent its first reading on May 13, information about the potential operator has been sparse. As reported at the time by the South Bend Tribune, the address of purchaser New Carlisle 25 Developer LLC is listed as 80 Broad Street, FL 18, New York, which also belongs to an operator building a facility in Pennsylvania.

The land parcel currently belongs to Mall-O-Manor LLC and Randall, Betty, and Scott Szczypiorski.

Most of Indiana’s data centers are clustered around Indianapolis, which is in the center of the state.
