A new data center company has entered the UK market with a facility located between Newbury and Basingstoke.
Media Datacentre was first founded in 2023 by Gavin Watson and Simon Natella to offer colocation and private cloud services.
The company has now launched its first data center.
“Conveniently located between Newbury and Basingstoke (UK), this is Media Datacentre’s first 100 percent privately owned and operated data center, offering a wide range of data center services such as colocation, dedicated servers, virtual servers, private cloud, and AI/ML solutions,” the company said in a LinkedIn post.
Construction of the 225 sqm (2,420 sq ft) facility began in March 2024.
The facility offers 0.3MW of IT capacity, featuring one data hall and capacity for up to 41 full-size (47U) racks.
The post added that the facility is aimed at the SME market and will offer a custom approach to its customers’ needs, as opposed to the “off the shelf” solutions seen from larger providers.
The facility is powered by a three-phase supply, a backup UPS system, and an on-site generator. It also offers diverse-routed fiber connectivity.
Basingstoke is located around 33 miles from the UK’s Slough data center hub. Slough is home to the likes of CyrusOne, Vantage, Digital Realty, Yondr, Iron Mountain, DataBank, Colt, AWS, Virtus, and Equinix. Nearby in Reading, Centersquare and Pulsant have a presence.
In the UK, the government recently announced data center projects worth £14 billion ($16.96bn) as part of its new AI action plan. The government said it will set up what it calls AI Growth Zones to speed up planning approvals and give them better access to the energy grid.
