Real estate developer LVL Energy has announced plans to build a 50MW data center and a 200MW battery energy storage system (BESS) outside Dąbrowa Górnicza in southern Poland.

The complex in the country’s Silesian Voivodship will be built on a 3.92-hectare (9.6-acre) plot in the Tucznawa investment zone outside the city, with the total cost of the project estimated at PLN 1.87 billion ($514m).

DCD has approached LVL Energy for comment.

“This is one of the most strategic investments in the Katowice Special Economic Zone, not only for Dąbrowa Górnicza but for the entire region,” said Dąbrowa Górnicza’s vice-mayor, Ewa Fudali-Bondel, in a statement. “The project is not only innovative but also aligns with efforts to support energy and digital transformation. It is the development of modern digital and energy infrastructure, fostering cooperation between business, technology, and government.”

Though it has purchased the land required for the data center, LVL Energy does not intend to operate the facility.

Additional foreign investment will be needed to bring the project to fruition, the firm’s co-owner, Dawid Kliś, told WNP.PL. “We’re not a large enough investor to invest billions of zlotys,” said Kliś. “Moreover, in Poland, companies with significant capital still lack the courage to invest in similar projects. These are innovative projects, and therefore difficult for banks to finance, despite their very good profitability. We're targeting foreign investment funds.”

LVL Energy was incorporated in 2023 and did not have any fixed or intangible assets as of last year, according to Rejestr.Io.

If the firm succeeds in building its data center in Dąbrowa Górnicza, it will join a small market of three operational facilities in the Silesian Voivodship, according to DataCenters.com. Several new projects are also planned, including a 50MW facility operated by DL Invest Group in the nearby city of Bielsko-Biała, and a municipal data center in the city of Gliwice.
