Lumos has announced that it will invest $230 million to roll out its fiber optic network in the state of Ohio.

The fiber provider, which was acquired by T-Mobile in April as part of a joint venture (JV) with EQT Infrastructure, will build a nearly 2,000-mile-long fiber optic network in the state.

It's the company's first build in Ohio and first fiber expansion since being acquired. The expansion will support Mahoning and Trumbull County.

"This nearly a quarter of a billion-dollar investment in the Greater Youngstown community reflects our dedication to expanding our fast and reliable fiber Internet to all communities, not just the big cities," said Lumos CEO, Brian Stading.

"We're proud to be the first 100 percent fiber provider in the Mahoning Valley, bringing critical infrastructure to the area and helping to pave the pathway for economic growth in these areas."

At present, Lumos provides full fiber Internet, home WiFi, voice, and streaming services to 320,000 homes across Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Its network spans more than 7,500 route miles.

In April, T-Mobile revealed that it plans to invest $950m in the JV to acquire a 50 percent equity stake and all existing fiber customers, with the funds invested by T-Mobile being used by Lumos for future fiber builds.

T-Mobile will invest a further $500m between 2027 and 2028. The funds will enable Lumos to extend its fiber offering to 3.5 million homes by the end of 2028.
