Polish tower company Emitel has acquired a data center in Warsaw.
The Cordiant-owned company has announced plans to enter the data center market with the launch of colocation, cloud computing, and data processing services.
The 2MW facility, located just outside Warsaw, is reportedly built to Tier III standards and has expansion potential.
Full details on the acquired facility, the location, the seller, and the terms of the deal were not shared.
Emitel said the new data center services were aimed at broadcasters expanding multimedia services, enterprises across multiple industries, as well as financial and public sector institutions.
“Entering the data center market is a natural evolution for Emitel and another step in delivering our strategy of becoming one of the leaders of Poland’s digital transformation,” said Maciej Pilipczuk, Emitel CEO. “Our facility is a state-of-the-art data center located in a highly convenient and accessible location, particularly for customers operating within the Warsaw metropolitan area. We provide best-in-class services, ensuring security, reliability and scalability. This development also reflects the rapid growth of technologies such as artificial intelligence, which require ever-greater computing power and advanced infrastructure.”
Emitel was formed in 2002 using state-owned radio communication and broadcast infrastructure assets.
The firm operates more than 700 towers and masts across Poland. It also operates a fiber optic network, 1,175 microwave connections, distributed antenna systems, and a nationwide IoT network, with 68,200+ sensors.
UK-based digital infrastructure investor Cordiant Digital has owned the company since 2022, buying it from US investment firm Astatine Investment Partners.
Steven Marshall, executive chairman of Cordiant Digital Infrastructure Management, said: "Emitel's expansion into the data center market in Poland is a milestone for the company and reflects the strength of Emitel's operational platform and management team, as well as the increasing demand for secure, resilient, and scalable digital infrastructure across Central and Eastern Europe. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Emitel's management team as they continue to grow in this new sector.”
