Lumen Technologies has been awarded an approximately $110 million contract from the US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to provide mission-critical network services to the US Department of Defense (DoD).

The contract will run for five years from November 30, 2023, through September 30, 2028.

"Lumen's robust fiber network delivers always-on, 24/7 services that power the US Department of Defense," said Jason Schulman, Lumen national vice president, federal sales.The contract will see Lumen operate and maintain DISA's fiber backbone, which includes colocation facilities, dark fiber, diverse end-to-end network infrastructure, new fiber builds, and system updates.

It's not the first time that the telecoms firm has worked with the DoD, with the contract an extension of an existing network services contract DISA previously awarded to the company.

Across the US, Lumen provides more than 11,000 fiber miles in support of the US Department of Defense Information Network.

Earlier this year, Lumen Technologies won a seperate $223 million contract from DISA to provide secure, mission-critical communications services to the DoD.

That contract will see Lumen supply the DISA with modern hybrid-cloud voice and audio-conferencing services that support the DoD both in the US and abroad. The one-year deal features three additional one-year options and a potential six-month extension.

It was awarded to Lumen through the General Services Administration's 15-year, $50 billion Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) program.

Last year, the company was awarded a task order worth more than $1.2 billion from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to deliver a fully integrated wide-area data transport service to more than 9,500 USDA locations across the US and around the world.

This particular contract sees Lumen - previously known as CenturyLink - offer secure remote access, contact center, and cloud connectivity solutions to the USDA sites.
