The London Stock Exchange has agreed to allow others to use space on its data center rooftop for connectivity infrastructure.

As reported by Reuters, the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) previously held exclusive rights for the space used to house radio equipment for high-speed connectivity.

The facilities in question include the LSE trading venue in London, Cboe Europe, and ICE.

The change was motivated by a probe by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which was investigating whether this limited competition for high-frequency traders that rely on high-speed connectivity for their financial edge.

The FCA provisionally accepted LSEG's proposal to share rooftop space on the data center on September 5, 2025. It has yet to decide if a competition law was broken.

"Offering very fast connections is key to competition, and to maximise the speed of their connections, providers must be able to place radio units close to trading venues," the FCA said in a statement.

An LSEG representative told Reuters in an email: "These commitments have been made without prejudice to LSEG's position that it has not infringed UK competition law and that the initial concerns that prompted the FCA to commence its investigation are unfounded."

The FCA is calling for views on the proposal from LSEG, with a consultation running until 29 September 2025.

LSEG has one colocation data center located in the City of London. The facility serves the London Stock Exchange, Turquoise, and Turquoise Europe trading venues.

Outside of the colo facility, LSEG is one of the many exchanges to have embraced cloud computing.

In April 2025, LSEG expanded its use of Amazon Web Services (AWS), making AWS its preferred cloud platform for its markets, risk intelligence, and FTSE Russell divisions.

LSEG additionally has a longstanding relationship with Microsoft. In 2022, Microsoft acquired a stake in LSEG, which, in return, saw LSEG agree to use Microsoft's cloud capabilities as part of a ten-year partnership.

As part of that agreement, LSEG’s technology infrastructure and data and analytics platforms were set to be migrated onto the Microsoft cloud. LSEG’s data platform and other key technology infrastructure will migrate into Microsoft’s Azure cloud environment.
