IO, Phoenix-based data center provider famous for its modular-data-center offering IO.Anywhere, has selected a Singaporean firm to act as the exclusive distributor of its data center and data center infrastructure management (DCIM) products in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.
Tractors Machinery International (TMI) will sell data center capacity in IO.Anywhere modules that can either be housed in the US company's 100,000 sq ft building in Singapore or at customers' own locations. IO's anchor tenant in Singapore is Goldman Sachs, although the provider has not deployed any capacity for the US financial-services giant there yet.
IO's DCIM software, called IO.OS, is offered as part of IO.Anywhere, but the Phoenix company also sells it as a stand-alone product.
Kindra Martone, senior VP of global ecosystem at IO, said the company chose to partner with a distributor in Asia Pacific to benefit from TMI's knowledge of the local market. “TMI brings wealth of regional expertise, rich relationships and fundamental understanding of the area's culture and market dynamics,” she said.
Like it does for its US sites, IO is building data center modules for the Singapore facility at its plant in Chandler, Arizona (just outside of Phoenix).
An initial set of them is already en route to Singapore. “TMI will maintain inventory in the region to allow for rapid deployments,” she said.
Shipping the modules internationally did not have a big impact on cost, Martone said. Their price fluctuates a lot more with different technical configurations for different customers, and shipping cost “is not a material factor.”
These will be the first IO.Anywhere modules deployed outside of the US. Domestically, the company and its partners have deployed data centers in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona, Denver, Colorado, Ohio and New Jersey.
A UK location is “on its way”, Martone said, but did not provide details.
