A new crypto data center has opened in Georgia.

As reported by local press, the cryptomine site has officially opened in Cuthbert, and could potentially deliver millions of dollars in revenue to Randolph County.

The project, on less than one acre off Broad Street, is from an affiliate known as LN Energy 8 LLC. The site has a total of six data center modules, according to city documents, with some $1.45 million invested.

Project manager Hao Chen told WALB the data center will consume about 7MW - the equivalent of around 5,000 homes. Images suggest the company is using Antbox modules from Bitmain.

Chen said tax revenue generated by the data center can be used to benefit Cuthbert County.

“All of a sudden, it’s 5,000 households that moved into this tiny data center, and it’s paying 5,000 households’ worth of utility bills. That translates directly into tax revenue the city can put back into building the community,” Chen said.

The Mayor of Cuthbert, Bobby Jenkins, welcomed the new mining site, noting the benefit of the increased tax revenue.

“We are in an economically challenged area, so any opportunity to generate additional revenue, we welcome that opportunity,” Jenkins said.

“Just having them in our county, we’ll benefit because that’s additional equipment that will be added to our tax digest. So that will help lower our tax digest for the county, which is always something that’s good,” he added.

Cuthbert isn’t the only place in Georgia that’s due to have a new cryptomine data center. Nearby Atkinson County is reportedly also set to have a mining site break ground soon.

LN Energy (and affiliate LN Compute) has previously sold several data centers to CleanSpark in Georgia.

The company has previously looked to develop a cryptomine site elsewhere in Georgia, including Douglas, Coffee County; Blackshear, Pierce County; and outside Forsyth, Monroe County. In all cases, the company was frustrated by pushback from local officials.
