Data center and powered land provider Lancium has reportedly secured new debt financing.

“We are proud to have acted as strategic advisor to Lancium LLC, a Blackstone portfolio company, on their inaugural $600 million debt financing package on behalf of Lancium Abilene LLC (a fully-owned Lancium LLC subsidiary) which owns a 100 percent interest in a 1.2 GW powered land package in Abilene, Texas,” financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald said on LinkedIn over the weekend.

Lancium is yet to announce any financing deals – DCD has reached out for comment.

Launched in 2017 as a cryptomining firm, Lancium aimed to colocate data centers at renewable sites, such as wind farms, and use excess capacity to power crypto and HPC hardware. The company later moved into developing large data center sites it calls Clean Campuses.

Reports that Blackstone was to invest in Lancium surfaced late last year, with the investment giant later confirming the news.

Lancium has a large campus in Abilene, Texas, that is hosting OpenAI’s debut Stargate data center development.

First given the go-ahead in 2021, what was then Project Artemis was described as a "renewable energy power data center campus" to be built on around 800 acres of land along Spinks and Summerhill roads in Taylor County. Ground was originally set to break in Q1 2022, with the site able to offer 200MW and reportedly has the potential to reach 1GW by 2025 and eventually total 2GW.

Crusoe is now developing a number of data centers on the site for Oracle, which in turn will be used by OpenAI. Crusoe broke ground on the first two buildings on the planned 1.2GW site last year and launched recently. Work on another six buildings started in May, which are due to launch next year.

Lancium has previously said it aims to build five data center campuses across West Texas totaling 5GW. The company aims to bring a large portion of this capacity online by 2028.

Another large site in Childress County is planned. The 3,000-acre development could total more than 2GW at full build-out. Another development is reportedly planned in nearby Hall County.
