A 1.6MW data center is on sale for $4 million in Ames, Iowa.

The 15,510 sq ft (1,440 sqm) facility, located on a 63,655 sq ft (5,915 sqm) land parcel at 1205 Buckeye Avenue, comes with two data center rooms and two diesel generators.

Built in 1990, the data center is currently owned by Employers Mutual Casualty (EMC), a commercial property and casualty insurance company.

The facility was put up for sale on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

EMC announced back in 2019 that it was moving to Guideware Cloud, a cloud platform built on AWS that is designed to be used by insurance carriers.

Ames is a city in Story County, central Iowa. Data Center Map lists only one other data center in the city, which belongs to IT services firm Global Reach.

Most of the state’s data centers are located in Des Moines, which is approximately 30 miles (48km) south of Ames.
