Kyocera plans to sell some of its stake in Japanese network carrier KDDI Corporation.
At present, Kyocera holds a 15.3 percent stake in KDDI, worth roughly 1.6 trillion yen ($10.4 billion), per data compiled by Bloomberg.
The company, which makes telecom equipment and semiconductor materials, wants to sell a third of the stake over the next five years.
Proceeds from any sale would be used to boost Kyocera's finances, reported Bloomberg.
Kyocera may also use KDDI shares as collateral to take out loans, and could consider further reducing its stake in KDDI plus exiting its non-core operations.
This week, Kyocera slashed its annual operating income forecast, blaming weakness in its semiconductor devices business.
Earlier this month, KDDI picked Samsung to be its main Open RAN vendor.
As part of the agreement, Samsung provides its 4G and 5G Open RAN-compliant virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) products for KDDI's Open RAN deployment in Japan.
