fifteenfortyseven Critical Systems Realty (1547) and Hawaii Pacific Teleport (HPT) announced the formation of Hawaii Pacific Data, a joint venture to develop a data center adjacent to the HPT facility in Kapolei, Hawaii (on the Island of Oahu).

The firm will provide commercial and government clients with critical infrastructure to support telecom, cloud presence, content delivery and IT data system hosting, coupled with access to international fiber optic and satellite providers.

Leeana Smith-Ruland, an HPT managing general partner, said the data center's location and direct access to HPT make it an attractive solution for trans-Pacific network operators, satellite-network operators, content and cloud providers, financial organizations, enterprises and social-media firms.

The multi-building construction project will initially redevelop an existing facility to provide about 200 cabinets. Leveraging the proximity to HPT, Hawaii Pacific Data will create a high-bandwidth meet-me point to establish the campus as a strategic point of presence for trans-Pacific traffic.

“Together with 1547, we are developing this high-density data center facility as a critical meeting point in the Pacific,” Smith-Ruland said.

Additional campus development will include an adjacent entirely new building.

HPT provides connectivity between the Americas, Asia, and Australia. 1547's team brings to the partnership experience in developing, renovating and operating data center space, as well as its roster of carrier and enterprise network relationships.
