The Iranian military has warned that it will target US and Israel‑linked energy and IT infrastructure in the Middle East, should its power plants be attacked.

The threats follow several attacks on Amazon Web Services data centers, with two hit by drone strikes in the UAE and a third damaged in Bahrain, in early March. The US and Israel also bombed two data centers in Iran.

The new warning comes after US President Donald Trump posted on social media that Iran had 48 hours to fully open the Strait of Hormuz or the US would "hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!"

Should the US follow through, Iran spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari said that the country would target energy infrastructure in the region, along with IT infrastructure, and desalination plants.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad ⁠Baqer Qalibaf said that the infrastructure "will be considered legitimate targets and will be irreversibly destroyed." What criteria it would use to classify infrastructure as US or Israel-linked was not disclosed.

The Gulf region is home to a large number of data centers, including those backed by US hyperscalers and investors.

The Iranian military also said that, if its power plants were attacked, it would close the Strait of Hormuz for as long as it took to rebuild its plants.
