Finnish quantum computing company IQM Quantum Computers is set to install Poland’s first superconducting quantum computer at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology (WUST).

The 5-qubit IQM Spark system will be installed in Q2 2025 and be made available to researchers, doctoral candidates, and computer science students.

The machine will be the first superconducting quantum computer deployed in Poland. IQM opened an office in Poland last year, and the company has since rolled out a number of initiatives to support the country’s quantum computing ecosystem.

WUST plans to inaugurate the system at Wrocław Centre for Networking and Supercomputing to mark the 30th anniversary of the center.

“We are proud to deliver the nation's first quantum computer to strengthen its position as a leading hub in quantum development in Central and Eastern Europe, elevate research, and have the potential to transform modern science and industry,” said co-CEO of IQM, Mikko Välimäki.

Professor Wojciech Bożejko, faculty of information and communication technology at WUST, added: “This is the first quantum computer in our country and Eastern Europe using low-temperature superconducting qubit technology.”

Founded in Helsinki, Finland, in 2018, IQM brings full-stack quantum computers and applications to HPCs, research institutes, universities, and business enterprises. In late 2024, the company announced plans to deploy its 5-qubit IQM Spark quantum computers at both the Chungbuk National University in South Korea and the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute.

IQM’s Spark quantum machines have been specifically tailored for universities and research labs, offering high single-qubit and two-qubit gate fidelity, which the company says allows for reliable and accurate quantum applications.
