The technology arm of Intro Holding, Intro Technology, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with data center provider Oman Data Park.
The deal will see a $450 million data center built in Egypt within the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
The data center has been dubbed the Kemet Data Center, using the original name of the land now called Egypt.
The facility spans 80,000 sqm (860,000 sq ft) and will be developed in two phases. Further details of the data center and its phases have not yet been shared.
The Kemet Data Center is expected to partially rely on solar energy.
The companies said the partnership will provide cloud solutions, IoT, and digital transformation for regional and international markets, adding that the facility will leverage Egypt’s advanced infrastructure and its position as a key regional hub.
Maqbool Al Wahaibi, CEO of Oman Data Park, said: “The joint investment opportunities and our collaborative approach will support the growth and innovation in the Middle East, and its economic development. We look forward to working together to provide digital solutions through advanced data centers that meet the growing needs of companies worldwide to establish a presence in the region.”
Founded in 2012, Oman Data Park is a joint venture between Omani telco Omantel and data center company 4Trust LLC. The company currently has three data centers, all in Oman’s capital city of Muscat, according to DataCenterMap.
Intro Group is an Egyptian conglomerate, operating in fields such as oil and gas, real estate, remote engineering, and financial investment.
Data centers in Egypt have been historically concentrated in Cairo with Telecom Egypt, Orange, GPX, and Etisalat Colocation all having a presence in the capital. Egpyt is a hotspot for subsea cables with more than 19 cables landing in the nation and five more expected to join in the next few years.
