Interoute, owner operator of one of Europe’s largest networks, and a cloud services vendor, has confirmed to DatacenterDynamics' that it has bought Vtesse, one of the largest fiber-optic network operators in the UK.

The news was uncovered by DatacenterDynamics this morning and confirmed when a call to the Vtesse switchboard was put through to Interoute’s marketing director Jonathan Brown.

Now a release from Interoute confirms that it has bought Vtesse, an operator with a network connecting 55 data centers and 48 towns in the United Kingdom. The company works with system integrators including IBM, Arup, Redstone and Logicalis, and its customers include Lloyds TSB, Poundland, Friends Provident, Invesco, DEFRA and the AA.

Interoute also gets a 2,700m2 Tier III data center 25 minutes outside central London, which can hold 877 racks at 5kW each via a 5MW power supply - and is, in Interoute's words "ideal for colocation, disaster recovery and back-up for Interoute’s London City data centres".

Gareth Williams, Interoute CEO said: “When you look at the options for European businesses wanting to take advantage of flexible, scalable cloud infrastructure, they are often limited to the public cloud providers who think Europe can be served by one European data center location connected by the public internet. With this acquisition Interoute is adding its twelfth data center in Europe and over 7000km of UK netwrork to its 60,000km pan-European global cloud services platform. This provides a highly resilient, secure low latency cloud platform that businesses everywhere can benefit from.”

Aidan Paul Chairman and Founder, Vtesse said: “Becoming part of Interoute will give these customers access to the extended portfolio of solutions and international reach of Interoute, opening new opportunities and new markets.”
