Intel has begun laying off employees as part of its latest round of job cuts.

According to WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notices filed by the company and first reported by CRN, 107 Intel workers in California have been permanently laid off, including 76 workers at the Robert Noyce Building – the company’s Santa Clara headquarters.

The filings were made on June 18, with the layoffs set to commence on July 15. CRN reported that the impacted roles include 22 physical design engineers, in addition to system-on-chip logic design engineers, product development engineers, design-for-test design engineers, members of Intel’s cloud software team, and an AI systems and solutions manager.

A small number of project managers working across various divisions have also been affected by the job cuts.

Reports first emerged earlier this month that Intel is planning to reduce its headcount by between 15 and 20 percent after a memo from Intel’s manufacturing VP, Naga Chandrasekaran, was published by The Oregonian.

“These reductions will be based on a combination of portfolio changes, level and position elimination, skill assessment for remaining positions, and some hard decisions around our project investments,” the memo reportedly read, with Chandrasekaran adding: “We are also taking into consideration factory operations impact.”

Following the appointment of CEO Lip-Bu Tan in March 2025, it was reported that Intel was planning to cut 20 percent of its workforce as part of a restructuring initiative that would streamline Intel’s management and make engineering the key focus of the company.

Prior to Tan taking the helm, Intel laid off 15,000 workers in the second half of 2024 following heavy financial losses.

Last week, a day after filing the WARN notices, the chipmaker announced a host of new executive appointments, including a new chief revenue officer and three former Cadence, Google, and Rain AI execs as engineering leads.
