The Odisha Cabinet has greenlit a Rs 176.83 crore ($18.62m) government data center project in India.

Dubbed the Odisha State Data Centre (OSDC), the facility will be established on the south campus of Dharanidhar University in Keonjhar, reports Analytics India Mag.

The data center will be used as a disaster recovery data center for the primary facility located in Bhubaneswar, ensuring services can continue running in the event of outages or cyberattacks.

Because of this, the data center will have an independent power supply, cooling systems, network connectivity, and computing infrastructure.

Of the Rs 176.83 crore ($18.62m) set aside for the project, $16.22m will be for capital expenditure-related costs, while $2.4m will go to operating expenses over a five-year period. More than $17m has been provided by the Fifth State Finance Commission as a grant, while the rest will come from the Electronics and Information Technology Department’s State Data Centre maintenance budget.

The data center is expected to take around nine months to set up, and Krystal Integrated Services has been contracted to assist with the project.

The primary Odisha data center has been operating in Bhubaneswar since 2011. The state is reportedly planning an upgrade of the site, according to OdishaTV. According to that report, the state data center is currently hosting more than 600 government applications.

Odisha is an eastern state in India located on the Bay of Bengal. In 2025, the Indian government announced plans for a cable landing station in the state. CtrlS is said to be developing a data center in the state, as are Indian Financial Technologies and Allied Services.
