French telco Free has struck a deal with digital infrastructure company TDF Infrastructure for the deployment of 2,500 new telecommunication sites across France.

In an announcement, Free, a subsidiary of Iliad Group, noted that the agreement will enable the carrier to expand and densify its 4G and 5G mobile networks.

As part of the deal, TDF and Free have signed a 20-year Master Service Agreement under which Free will remain the principal tenant for the sites.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

TDF operates more than 8,800 sites in France, consisting of pylons, towers, and rooftop installations, hosting hardware for the country's telecoms operators.

"As a telco, we need to scale our infrastructure to deliver the best quality of service and keep pace with the constantly increasing demand for data and 5G services. This partnership will allow us to accelerate the expansion and densification of our mobile network in France, while keeping up our strict financial discipline."

According to Free, its agreement with TDF will enable the carrier to provide enhanced connectivity for its 15.7 million mobile subscribers in the country.

Last year, TDF was reported to be on the radar of American Tower for a potential acquisition.
