The Government of Montenegro has selected 4iG Group to build a new data center.

The Hungarian telecoms group this week announced the deal, which will see 4iG International Digital Infrastructure Zrt. (4iG IDI) design and operate the Tier III-certified state data center.

Details of the planned facility were not shared. News that the Montenegro government was set to build a data center as part of an infrastructure deal with Hungary was announced last year. The country has been aiming to develop a state data center since around 2023.

4iG will also deliver a €54.25 million law enforcement development program and related system integration. 4iG Group’s subsidiary, 4iG Informatika Zrt. (4iG IT) will deliver the program, including delivery and installation of equipment, necessary training, and ongoing support.

Founded as Freesoft in 1990, Budapest Stock Exchange-listed 4iG provides a number of IT services, including software development, managed services, and cybersecurity, as well as data center and cloud management offerings.

4iG Group has been present in Montenegro since 2021 via its local mobile service provider, One Montenegro, after the company acquired Telenor Montenegro. The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Montenegro government in 2023 to focus on the development of a 5G network and related solutions.

4iG IDI is the business unit of 4iG Group focused on delivering cross-border infrastructure developments.

Montenegro has a minimal data center market – Data Center Map lists zero active facilities in the European nation. Local telecoms firm Victoria Group was previously listed as operating a facility in the capital, Podgorica.

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić last year said NTT was interested in potentially developing a data center in the country.
