Hong Kong-based Airstar Bank has fully migrated its operations to the cloud.
Tencent Cloud revealed today, April 25, that Airstar Bank has fully moved to its cloud platform, successfully running operations for more than 100 days.
Airstar Bank began its migration in December 2023, signing an agreement with Tencent Cloud that would see all business operations moving to the cloud.
Felix Tao, CTO of Airstar Bank, said: “We are very pleased to partner with Tencent Cloud to successfully and smoothly complete the bank’s cloud migration. We anticipate significant optimization in terms of resource costs and workload as well as the complexity of infrastructure operations and maintenance.
"This development not only helps reduce costs and enhance efficiency, accelerating product iteration, but the flexibility and scalability of the new core system will also assist Airstar Bank in dynamically adjusting resources to meet future business expansion and peak customer flow demands. In view of all this, we strive to build a more agile digital bank supported by cloud technology.”
The migration took a "phased" approach, with Tencent noting that each stage had to be completed within a "limited time window" to ensure that bank businesses were not affected.
The cloud migration had a "100 percent" success rate according to Tencent, and had no occurrences of business fallback or data rollback.
Airstar is using a multi-availability zone disaster recovery architecture to avoid outages.
Liming Hu, VP of Tencent Cloud, said: “Airstar Bank’s comprehensive cloud migration reflects its forward-looking approach to digitalization. Tencent Cloud is honored to assist Airstar Bank in smoothly and efficiently migrating to the cloud, helping to provide more diverse financial products and services to customers, improve customer satisfaction, and promote a virtuous cycle that enables rapid business development.
Airstar Bank is one of the first digital banks to be granted a banking license in Hong Kong, gaining its license in 2019. Information about the bank's prior data center footprint has not been shared. DCD has reached out for more information.
Tencent Cloud has three availability zones in its Hong Kong region. In total, the cloud provider has a global network of 56 availability zones across 21 regions, with recent additions in Japan and Saudi Arabia.
