Swiss operator has opened Phase II of its Zurich-West data center in Lupfig. The CHF50m (US$52.6m) expansion, named Zurich-West 2 adds a further 3,965 sq m of space – bringing the total site to 7,265sq m making it the largest commercial facility in Switzerland. The expansion can host approximately 1,300 racks.

Zurich-West 2 uses a climate-neutral ammonia cooling system and a hybrid power solution from ABB in a bid to make it one of the most energy efficient data centers in the country. The facility offers a PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of 1.19.

The facility which was built in 16 months is currently undergoing Tier IV certification from the Uptime Institute.
