Google has committed to investing $9 billion in data center infrastructure in South Carolina by 2027.

Shared in a blog post on October 13, the funding will go to expanding Google's existing campus in Berkeley County, and for the continued construction of its two new campuses in Dorchester County.

This builds on a previously announced $3.3bn investment in the sites announced in September 2024.

The Dorchester County data centers also broke ground in September 2024.

The first campus spans 230 acres at 1055 Research Center Drive in Ridgeville, Dorchester County – some 20 miles (32.1km) west of its existing Berkeley campus. News of the project surfaced last year, with Google working behind the name Mallard, LLC for what was known as ‘Project Dawson.’

The second new campus is located in the Winding Woods Commerce Park in St. George, around 18 miles (28.9km) west of Ridgeville. Google, going by the aliases Project Evergreen and Gannett Enterprises LLC, acquired 206 acres in the park earlier this year.

The Berkeley County campus has been operational since 2007 and has been expanded several times over the years.

Earlier this year, in South Carolina, Google signed a 600MW solar PPA with EnergyRe, and a water sustainability agreement with Arable.

The announcement shortly follows Google's commitment to spending $4bn in cloud and AI infrastructure in Arkansas, including its first data center in the state.

To be located in West Memphis, Arkansas, the campus - known as Project Pyramid - will be a five-building data center campus on a 1,178-acre property on the south side of Bollinger Road in West Memphis, Crittenden County – south of a Coca-Cola Consolidated bottling plant. Google was confirmed to be behind the effort in September 2025.

Google is also partnering with Entergy to bring a 600MW solar project to the state.
