Google will invest $15 billion in building infrastructure in Missouri, including a data center in New Florence, Montgomery County.

In addition to the data center, the company will work with Ameren to bring 500MW of new power capacity to the state's grid, building on the 1GW already contracted by Google in Missouri.

The two companies will also work with Evergy to bring a Capacity Commitment Framework (CCF) to Missouri, which will ensure large energy consumers, including Google, pay for their electricity needs and protect local rate payers.

While the data center campus under development is known as Project Spade. Planned for a 934-acre plot of land by data center developer Related Digital, the campus is targeting 1.2GW of capacity and represents a "multi-billion-dollar" investment in the region.

The data center will use a closed-loop, air-cooled system, and limit water use to domestic needs. According to Baxtel, the data center will feature two buildings spanning around 800,000 sq ft of floor space.

Construction is expected to begin in 2026, and will see the creation of 2,000 construction jobs.

Elsewhere in Missouri, Google is known to be developing a data center campus in Kansas City under the "Project Kestrel" moniker, and others known as Project Shale and Project Micah.

New Florence is located east of Kansas City, between Columbia and St Louis. The area is not a typical data center location, but earlier this year, Amazon Web Services was exploring a 1,000-acre campus nearby.
