Real estate firm Goodman has completed a new data center in Hong Kong and handed it over to its end user.
Goodman Group this week said it has completed the third building at its Goodman Tsuen Wan West data center campus and handed over the 50MW facility to Chinese operator GDS.
Goodman’s head of Asia, Paul McGarry, said: “This is the latest data center completion at the brand new 225MW Goodman Tsuen Wan West campus, further demonstrating our ability to provide the essential infrastructure needed to support Hong Kong’s digital economy.”
McGarry added: “This handover to GDS continues our track record of successfully delivering complex large-scale projects, in major global cities, helping improve speed to market for our customers.”
Goodman purchased the old textiles factory in 2014 and commenced construction of the first building in 2019. The first two buildings were fully leased on completion in 2022. The fourth building is due for completion by the end of 2024 and will be leased to GDS.
Jamie Khoo, CEO of GDS International, said: “We are excited to commence MEP construction on HK3, our third data center facility in Hong Kong. This facility underscores our dedication to innovation and sustainability while addressing the growing demand for data center services driven by advancements in cloud computing and AI.”
Goodman is an integrated property group with operations throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe, the UK, and the Americas.
The company said it has been providing data centers since 2005, and this latest facility is the company’s sixth in Hong Kong.
The company has 1GW of data centers in operation or development, and a 5GW global power bank across 13 markets – with 1.8GW located in Asia.
In a recent results update, Goodman said data centers make up around 40 percent of the $13 billion worth of projects currently in development – and expects “significant data center commencements” in 2025. The firm said it is continuing to reposition many of its sites for data centers.
The company is planning a 126MW data center in Sydney’s Guildford West on a former Castrol site, is seeking to redevelop the former ABC television studios on Sydney’s North Shore into an 80MW data center, and is converting a former Eaton warehouse into a 90MW facility in the Mascot area of the Australian city.
In April 2023, the company announced plans for a 100MW powered shell in Frankfurt, Germany. The company recently announced plans to expand its data center footprint in Japan and that it had broken ground on a new facility in Hong Kong.
