General Dynamics' IT business (GDIT) has been awarded a $386.4m contract by Homeland Security for its IT infrastructure.

The company will be operating and maintaining the infrastructure, components and related applications for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Biometric Identity Management.

General Dynamics was the only bidder for the task order, which commenced on December 31, 2023.

The company will be responsible for production and nonproduction environments and related business systems deployed with the DHS Data Center 1 and contractor and government facilities, among others, in a contract currently expected to run for 36 months.

The company has a long-standing relationship with the DHS. In 2021, GDIT protested against the DHS awarding a $2.7bn contract for data center and cloud support to Perspecta.

Since then, however, the company has gone on to win a $4.5bn User Facing and Data Center Services contract with the department in 2022, a cyber security and software development contract worth $580m in April 2023, and a $712m task order to modernize the IT infrastructure at the DHS St Elizabeths Campus in Washington DC.

In January 2023, GDIT won a $152m contract with the Alabama Supercomputer Authority.
