Frontier Communications added a record number of fiber subscriptions, as the company continued its fiber drive across the US.
In total, Frontier added 108,000 fiber broadband customers, up 19.3 percent year on year.
During the third quarter for this year, the firm also passed an additional 381,000 fiber passings to reach 7.6 million total locations.
For the quarter, Frontier reported revenue of $1.49 billion, up 3.7 percent YoY, which it said was primarily driven by growth in its fiber-based products.
Meanwhile, the company posted an operating income of $86 million and a net loss of $82 million.
The company noted that it lost 55,000 residential copper subs, plus 6,000 business copper customers during the quarter, as legacy equipment continues to be phased out.
Frontier, set to be acquired by Verizon for $20 billion, stated it wouldn't host a conference call to review the quarter or provide further financial outlook due to the impending transaction.
Announced in September, the deal will see Verizon bolster its fiber network to compete with rival telco AT&T.
Under the agreement, Verizon is set to buy Frontier for $38.50 per share in cash. Verizon currently serves close to eight million fiber customers, while Frontier has around 2.2 million.
Frontier reiterated its desire for the acquisition to be approved, which is set to be discussed during a shareholder meeting next week (November 13).
However, the situation isn't that straightforward as several Frontier shareholders have expressed their opposition to the deal, including Glendon Capital Management, Cooper Investors Pty Limited, and Cerberus.
