Christian Koch has left ByteDance for a new analyst role at OpenAI.
At the TikTok parent, Koch led the company's Edge infrastructure strategy.
"I'm immensely grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a talented group of people on a truly rewarding journey building Edge infrastructure at scale for TikTok and beyond," he said on LinkedIn.
At OpenAI, he is taking on a new position as a strategic intelligence analyst focusing on AI infrastructure, "from energy and data centers, to networking, compute, and chips."
For nearly a decade, Koch wrote Foundations, a popular industry newsletter that tracked the digital infrastructure sector and broke several scoops.
"Although I stopped writing and publishing the newsletter a few years ago, the passion and obsession I developed to go beyond the headlines and get to the bottom of what was happening - figuring out the "so what?" - and being of service to those reading and consuming what I was publishing really stuck with me," Koch said.
"I knew I wanted to do something similar once again, and while I'm not re-launching the newsletter like I planned back in the beginning of the year, I am incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to leverage my experience and skills to do something similar for a company driving a generational leap in technology at the very frontier of innovation."
