Shamez Hemani has joined Anthropic as a member of the technical staff.

Hemani was one of a number of senior OpenAI data center employees to leave the company in April, when he joined Meta's dedicated compute team.

At OpenAI, where he spent nearly two and a half years, he was part of the Stargate compute and infrastructure team, responsible for helping build gigawatts of compute capacity for OpenAI’s research and product teams.

As part of a broader reshuffle at the company, Hemani left, joining Meta alongside key Stargate figure Peter Hoeschele. The Information reports that OpenAI's Anuj Saharan also joined Meta.

The Meta compute unit was set up in January with a pledge to build "tens of gigawatts this decade, and hundreds of gigawatts or more over time," CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at the time.

While Hoeschele remains at the company, Hemani left after five months. "I recently joined the team at Anthropic to work on compute and build an exciting and safe future," he said on LinkedIn.

Anthropic has ramped up its internal data center team and, in the past few months, signed a $35bn cloud agreement with Lambda, a $45bn deal with Nscale, $19bn with TeraWulf, and formed Theseus Infrastructure with GIC and Macquarie to develop data centers.

The company is also in talks with Meta to lease compute.
