The Job Corps is a national residential training and employment program that aims to help young people improve the quality of their lives through vocational and academic training.
An August 2023 report from the DOL proposed to dispose of the JCDC building as it was “no longer needed to accomplish the DOL mission and has been determined excess to DOL need.”
According to the report, the JCDC was activated for Job Corps utilization in 2003; the previous Job Corps data center functions were located at the Gary Job Corps Center in San Marcos, Texas.
The site provided computer network support services for more than 120 Job Corps Centers across the US. The data center is no longer needed and staff within the office component have been relocated or work from home.
The building was originally constructed in 1984 as legal offices and formerly known as the Transactive Building. The facility was later sold to GTECH, a national provider of computer services to support lottery games before being taken over by the DOL.
