Applied Digital has made the first phase of its Ellendale, North Dakota, data center ready for service.

The first 50MW of the 100MW building at the Polaris Forge 1 AI Factory Campus is now available for the data center's customer, CoreWeave.

This is the initial delivery of a 400MW capacity agreement with CoreWeave. CoreWeave initially signed on for 250MW in June 2025 but has since increased the agreement to take up all capacity at Polaris Forge 1 as part of an $11bn, 15-year agreement.

“This ready-for-service milestone is a clear demonstration of our team’s ability to convert highly complex AI Factory designs from blueprint to production with precision and speed,” said Wes Cummins, CEO of Applied Digital. “Bringing the first phase of Polaris Forge 1 online in record time establishes a new standard for the future of data centers. Our team continues to redefine what is possible in delivering the infrastructure that fuels AI.”

“Bringing this first building online while on track to deliver the next 50MW before the end of the year spotlights our team’s precise execution, strategic planning, and strong alignment with our innovative partners,” added Laura Laltrello, COO of Applied Digital. “We design every element of our facilities to enable breakthrough capabilities, while optimizing energy performance, flexibility, and total cost of ownership.”

Construction on Applied’s Polaris Forge 1 campus in Ellendale began in September 2022 as crypto and HPC development. The site was designed to host 400MW of critical IT load, with the company claiming it has more than 1GW of power capacity currently under various stages of load study.

The company has a 180MW cryptomine data center in Ellendale, known as ELN01. The next building, the 369,000 sq ft (34,281 sqm) ELN02 – set to offer 100MW – is for HPC hosting.

Earlier this month, Applied secured a customer for its upcoming Polaris Forge 2 Campus in North Dakota. That contract will also span 15 years, and is valued at $5bn.

Applied Digital was founded as Applied Blockchain but does not mine its own Bitcoin, traditionally hosting hardware on behalf of other cryptomining firms.

It also hosts HPC and AI hardware amid massive demand for available capacity. Applied is also offering its own cloud services and has previously said it will host and offer access to Nvidia Blackwell GPUs.
