A fire broke out at a Meta data center construction site in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, on July 19.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department revealed it had been dispatched to the site via a Facebook post after receiving a report of black smoke coming from the roof of a building.

The fire department wrote: "Based on information provided by on-site security personnel and the size of the structure, the Beaver Dam Fire Department requested a MABAS Working Still Alarm to ensure adequate resources were responding to the incident.

"Upon arrival, firefighters observed black smoke coming from the roof area of the building. Crews immediately gained access to the roof and located a small fire involving a pile of discarded roofing materials. Firefighters quickly deployed a 1¾-inch handline to the roof and extinguished the fire within minutes of arrival."

The fire was contained to discarded roofing materials, which prevented it from spreading. According to the post, minimal damage was made to the building and limited to a small area of the roof. No construction activity was taking place at the time of the incident, and there were no injuries to either civilians or emergency responders.

DCD has contacted Meta for comment.

Meta revealed plans for the data center campus in November 2025. The company said it would invest $1 billion in the project, which would span 700,000 sq ft (65,032 sqm).

Beaver Dam is a city in Dodge County, along Beaver Dam Lake and the Beaver Dam River, around 65 miles northwest of Milwaukee.
