FedEx began construction on expanding its Colorado Springs, Colo., IT facility part of its Rocky Mountain Technology Center campus, company spokesman Jim McCluskey said.
According to city planning review records, the facility is a data center and the project will expand the buildings total footprint by 24,000 square feet.
Its total current footprint is well over 100,000 square feet, McCluskey said. "We're on schedule currently to be completed with the project late next year, he said, adding that FedEx plans to enter the expanded facility for LEED certification. He could not say what level of LEED certification the project was shooting for.
The contractor is Calcon Constructors Inc. and the project cost is about $46.5 million, according to the planning documents. Its a continual upgrade for us, McCluskey said about the project. Colorado Springs is home to one of our larger IT complexes. The campus has multiple buildings and multiple functions but the company would not disclose any details about specific functions the complex performs.
