Equinix finished the $10.9 million (AUS$15.6M) expansion of its PE2, Perth facility adding 225 cabinets and 550 square meters (5,920 sq ft) of colocation space.
The data center now has a total of 1,720 square meters (18,500 sq ft) of available space and 700 cabinets.
Aussie extension
PE2 is connected to the Australia Singapore Cable (ASC), which terminates at the facility. The cable, owned by Vocus Communication, is also accessible from Equinix data centers in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide and Brisbane, as well as Singapore.
In February Equinix invested $160m (AUS$227m) in Sydney to build its eighth facility in the city, SY5, which will be its largest in Australia to date, with 9,225 cabinets when finished.
Once SY5 and another new Melbourne ME2 facility are complete, Equinix will have a national footprint of 16 data centers across Sydney, Melbourne,Perth, Canberra, Adelaide and Brisbane.
The ME2 facility will be located in Port Melbourne, about six kilometers from Melbourne’s central business district. The data center will feature more than 29,300 square feet (2,700 sq m) of colocation space at completion of Phase 1 and more than 88,000 square feet (8,175 sq m) when fully built out in Q3.
Last year Equinix doubled the capacity of its SY4 facility in Sydney from 1,500 to 3,000 cabinets.
