Data center infrastructure provider Emerson Network Power has announced the first integration between some of its products with those of Avocent, the Huntsville, Ala.-based maker of KVM switches it recently acquired.
Emerson's Liebert MPX and MPH lines of PDU products can now be supported by Avocent's DSView 3 and Power Manager software. The benefits, according to Emerson, are real-time monitoring, metering, alarms, notifications and management capabilities, bringing infrastructure visibility and management to the rack-equipment level.
DSView 3 is management software that provides centralized management of all connected IT and network devices. The Power Manager software provides power monitoring capability to access and control functions of DSView 3. It enables monitoring and measurement of IT energy consumption and determination of costs and trends across primary data centers and remote sites.
"Only six months post-acquisition, this first product integration demonstrates the success of the Avocent integration and provides validation of Emerson Network Power's strategic vision," Steve Hassell, president of Avocent products and services at Emerson, said in a statement. "Our ability to interconnect with the other Emerson Network Power product offerings will provide real value to our customers who are struggling to understand and proactively manage their data center infrastructure."
The two Liebert PDU systems include remote-management functionality, including receptacle-level control and power and environmental monitoring.
Customers that have both now have the ability to use the two in an integrated fashion. Customers that only have the PDU's can buy DSView 3 software to take advantage of the new functionality.
Emerson closed the $1.2bn acquisition of Avocent in January.
