Build-to-suit data center company EdgeConneX will set up data centers in Chicago and Atlanta for neocloud Lambda.

The two facilities will support hybrid cooling with liquid-to-the-chip direct cooling and air cooling, and join two existing air-cooled facilities across both cities.

The Chicago data center will support 23MW, while the capacity of the Atlanta facility was not shared. However, Lambda said that the two data centers total 30MW+ combined.

Lambda plans to operate a combined 2GW data center fleet by the end of the decade, with more than a million GPUs.

Alongside the Chicago and Atlanta footprint, the company rents space in data centers across Mountain View, Santa Clara, Los Angeles, California; Salt Lake City, Utah; Kansas City, Missouri; Dallas, Austin, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; Atlanta, Georgia; and Sterling, Virginia.

This February, the company raised $480 million in a Series D round from investors that included the CIA's In-Q-Tel, Nvidia, and AI researcher Andrej Karpathy.
