UAE telco Du has signed a strategic MoU with Huawei that will see the mobile carrier ramp up its 5G+A (5G Advanced) rollout across the Emirates.
The agreement will also enable Du to leverage Huawei's 5G+A technology to deliver 10Gbps connectivity across the country. Huawei's 5G+A network is based on 5G Standalone (5G SA), which relies on a 5G core as opposed to previous generations of mobile technology.
As a result of the partnership, Du will look to deliver 10Gbps peak rates both indoors and outdoors. A key factor of this is the deployment of U6G technology, which enables ultra-large bandwidth aggregation and establishes the foundation for next-generation connectivity experiences.
The announcement comes a couple of years after Du and Chinese vendor Huawei announced plans for the construction and commercial use of the 5G Advanced network.
"Our strategic cooperation with Huawei will support our evolution towards 10Gbps-class experience, enable differentiated service innovation, and create new value in emerging areas such as autonomous mobility and the low-altitude economy," said Saleem AlBlooshi, chief technology officer, Du.
As part of the collaboration, Du said it will implement indoor digitalization systems that combine existing TDD 3CC capabilities with U6G and advanced indoor solutions.
According to the carrier, this will help to create premium 10Gbps experience zones throughout the UAE's most important venues. Potential use cases for this include shopping centers, hotels, exhibition facilities, airports, and landmark destinations.
"This comprehensive approach ensures end-to-end 10Gbps capability across spectrum strategy, radio access network evolution, transmission enhancement, and 5G standalone core infrastructure," stated Du.
Du also notes that the rollout of Huawei's second phase of 5G+ product offering will help the carrier to explore monetization opportunities.
This will include providing its customers with tiered performance packages, which are based on speed-based service levels, enhanced uplink solutions, and premium experience plans tailored to specific usage requirements.
Du and Huawei will also work on other 5G Advanced use cases, notably around autonomous mobility applications such as robotaxi services.
